How does it work?

HoloSunTM is a unique and patented glass-coating film which, when integrated into window design, maximizes electricity production from solar PV cells by concentrating (or magnifying) sunlight onto the cells. Available sunlight striking the holographic film is captured within the glass and redirected onto the PV cell.  This increases the performance of the cells by 25-40%.  The optical efficiency of the hologram is the key to the technology’s performance.

  • A higher optical efficiency captures more light, concentrating it onto the PV cell and will result in a higher overall module efficiency
  • Improvements in optical efficiency will allow wider spacing between PV cells, further reducing this component of module cost.

The number of PV cells required to generate a given amount of electricity can therefore be reduced, resulting in a more transparent and less costly window. It is important to note that HoloSunTM improves the efficiency of any PV cell; thus, even as PV cell technology advances, HoloSunTM will continue to provide corresponding enhancements.
